Troop 841 Pavillion

Title: Troop 841 Pavilion

Planned Start Date: Fall 2024

Location: Saint Thomas Aquinas Outdoor Area. 535 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, GA

Fundraising Target : $5000

Project Description:

Troop 841 proposes to construct a pavilion on the grounds of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church to benefit both the church community and our troop members. This pavilion will serve as a versatile outdoor space for various church activities and as a practical area for troop meetings and events.

The primary purpose of this project is to enhance the usability and functionality of the church grounds. The pavilion will provide shelter and a gathering space for outdoor events such as picnics, meetings, workshops, and recreational activities. It will also serve as an excellent location for troop activities, including meetings, training sessions, and ceremonies. The pavilion will enable the Troop to meet outside for more meetings of the year, specifically cold and rain.

The construction of a pavilion at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church by Troop 841 represents a significant investment in our community and scouting program. We believe this project will enrich the church experience and provide a lasting benefit to all who utilize the church grounds. We look forward to your support and approval to proceed with this endeavor.

DCSA Project – Nathan Carnegie

Scout name: Nathan Carnegie

Project 1 title: Pollinator Garden

  • Project 1 location: Providence Park

Project 2 title: Hazardous Waste Disposal

  • Project 2 location: Allatoona Aquatics Base

Estimated project start dates: Early April, 2025

Fundraising end date: February 17, 2025

Joint fundraising target: $800

Project 1 description: This garden is comprised of 2 raised garden beds, populated with colorful, native Georgia flowers, a bench to provide a place to rest for park goers, and 2 signs, 1 to describe the impact that native pollinators, such as a wide variety of butterflies, have on the health of our ecosystem and the other to describe the dangers they are facing. The overall goal of this project is to liven providence park, the second most traveled park in Milton, and create an area where native pollinators can thrive, while also teaching people about ways they can help to conserve the environment they are a part of and livening the area around them.

Project 2 description: This project is at the request of the ranger at Allatoona Aquatics Base, a popular recreational site for scouts focused on water sports and aquatic wildlife conservation. This project aims to clear a large buildup of hazardous waste at the base’s mechanic shop, which is comprised of, but not limited to, motor oil, numerous types of paint, thinners, and finishes, batteries, and more, all of which is very deadly to the ecosystem of the lake which the base is located on, as well as the wellbeing of the scouts who use the facilities at the base. In addition to clearing the buildup of waste, this project also aims to create a system for organizing and properly disposing of waste to prevent a future buildup of hazardous materials.

Thank you for your dedication and support of our local community.

The BSA Distinguished Conservation Service Award (DCSA) is the BSA’s highest conservation award available. Previously known as the William T. Hornaday Award, it was developed to encourage learning by the participants and to increase public awareness about natural resource conservation through sound stewardship, leadership, and education. Scouts who aim to earn this award must plan, lead, and complete 2 long-lasting conservation-related service projects in the same scope as an eagle service project in addition to earning a collection of conservation merit badges and completing a number of service hours benefiting a conservation effort.
