Project 1 description:<\/strong> This garden is comprised of 2 raised garden beds, populated with colorful, native Georgia flowers, a bench to provide a place to rest for park goers, and 2 signs, 1 to describe the impact that\n native pollinators, such as a wide variety of butterflies, have on the health of our ecosystem and the other to describe the dangers they are facing. The overall goal of this project is to liven providence park, the second most traveled\n park in Milton, and create an area where native pollinators can thrive, while also teaching people about ways they can help to conserve the environment they are a part of and livening the area around them.<\/p>\n

Project 2 description:<\/strong> This project is at the request of the ranger at Allatoona Aquatics Base, a popular recreational site for scouts focused on water sports and aquatic wildlife conservation. This project aims to\n clear a large buildup of hazardous waste at the base\u2019s mechanic shop, which is comprised of, but not limited to, motor oil, numerous types of paint, thinners, and finishes, batteries, and more, all of which is very deadly to the\n ecosystem of the lake which the base is located on, as well as the wellbeing of the scouts who use the facilities at the base. In addition to clearing the buildup of waste, this project also aims to create a system for organizing\n and properly disposing of waste to prevent a future buildup of hazardous materials.<\/p>\n

DCSA description:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The BSA Distinguished Conservation Service Award (DCSA) is the BSA\u2019s highest conservation award available. Previously known as the William T. Hornaday Award, it was developed to encourage learning by the participants and to increase\n public awareness about natural resource conservation through sound stewardship, leadership, and education. Scouts who aim to earn this award must plan, lead, and complete 2 long-lasting conservation-related service projects in the\n same scope as an eagle service project in addition to earning a collection of conservation merit badges and completing a number of service hours benefiting a conservation effort.<\/p>\n
